Successful lawyer Jeremy Speer has it all - a loving husband, a beautiful home, and a cherished dream that's about to become reality. He's learned not to take happiness for granted, meeting the challenges of life and love head-on with unwavering commitment and fierce devotion. A series of tragic events leaves Jeremy shattered, adrift on a sea of unimaginable pain. He's able to piece his life back together, but instead of embracing it, he merely exists, using isolation and punishing physical exertion to keep the world at bay.
High school teacher Kai Daniels has a heart for at-risk kids - he was one himself, and a teenage brush with the law and some troubled years behind bars left him scarred inside and out. With courage, hard work, and the support of friends, he's built a fulfilling life that leaves no time for a relationship.
An intense encounter with Kai at a gay club ignites a spark in Jeremy that he thought was extinguished forever, but he's unwilling to destroy the fragile peace he's managed to create, and he leaves Kai humiliated and disappointed. Things should have ended there, but a bizarre occurrence brings the two together in a way neither of them expected.

Melanie Hanson sure knows how to bring the angst. I thought I was gonna cry my way through the first chapter. Fortunately, that was the most angst in the story. Jeremy and Kai had a struggle to come together as a couple. There were very real issues for Jeremy and residual effects of tragedy that he never fully dealt with. This was a story of healing for him. Kai was a very strong character, who had truly been through his own hell and came out being the best person he could be. His close friend Loren, who was also a sometimes f**k buddy, had helped him in very important ways. Kai and Loren's friendship became somewhat of an obstacle for them and Jeremy as well.Fantastic character building and strong secondary characters, as well. It was a realistic setting and they faced problems that can occur in anyone's world. It was sweet, sexy and sometimes a little sad (beyond chapter one). We catch a glimpse of Carey and Jase, as Jase was a friend of Jeremy's. So a fitting second story and I'm looking very much forward to Loren's book.

Signs of Life (Audible Audio Edition) Melanie Hansen Robert Nieman Dreamspinner Press LLC Books Reviews
The characters were well written and the storyline was gut wrenching at times, and hopeful, which to me is a perfect story, a definite must read.
2nd book in series. I loved this book. This story had me from the beginning. I loved the 2 MCs and they're interactions. For me this, I liked this book better than the first (and I really enjoyed the first book). I just think everything about this book came together just right.
The story of Jeremy and Kai is a moving story. Ms. Hansen has blended heartbreak and healing with some steamy bedroom scenes to create one of those books that is hard to put down. I kept telling myself "just 1 more chapter and I will put it down" but it wasn't always that easy. I look forward to reading more of her books in the future. Maybe there's a story about Loren in the works?
4.25 stars
It's not often a book can have me crying my eyes out in the first chapter but that's exactly what happened here.
It's a book about second chances. About hitting rock bottom and finding the strength rebuild your life one step at a time
This book is an emotional roller coaster. Both characters have a hard past and although they are at different stages of the rebuild they worked well together. There were a few misunderstandings and the guys worked hard towards their HEA
Def 5 stars worthy. Great writing, great story and great sorrow. This writer knows what it takes to not give up when life throws you for a loop. I'm glad I found this book in my kindle suggestions because now I'm downloading the others books by this author. Really a great read and the secondary characters were so developed and helped the story evolve.
This was such an emotional read from beginning to end! It was perfect even though it was a roller coaster for both of these wonderful men. Jeremy with his devastating past and Kia with his horrible past was so much for each of them to overcome. I'm so glad they were able to see how much they needed each other and how they were able to piece each other back together. I highly recommend this but be warned you may need tissues. Can't wait to read more and I hope Loren has a story soon.
My Quickie Review
Overall 4.25
Performance 4.5
Story 4.25
After a pretty brutal start to the story (that first chapter is heartbreaking...so that the reader understands just how much Jeremy has gone through), this book settled into a hot, sexy, and by the end...romantic story. I liked it. I recommend it.
And, yes, I know this is a super-short review...but...I'm good with that. It was a good book.
